Steps and ways…

From Dialogues of Silence (Silent Dialogues) to “ About walking and ways…” there is quite a leap in Liviana’s artistic production. Four years separate the two shows: lots of days and months in the intense life of an artist…

In these four years, Liviana left behind most of those features so typical of her previous work: pure abstraction, repetitive combinations of vertical strips, naked surfaces made from different materials… She has found new ways to experiment (and enjoy), ways born from daily life and its demands, its circumstances, its questions, those same questions which human beings ask themselves since history is history and move them deeply. This is the leit-motif behind Liviana’s work.

(In our daily life, we meet often with doubts like: which decision do I make? How many obstacles will I have to overcome? How far will I have to go? How many problems will I find in my path? Which way to take if more than one is available? How to go on? These are the sort of things Liviana pushes us to think about through the titles of her works).

She has definitely abandoned her silent dialogues to start a new artistic experience based on the symbolism always to be found in our life, using human iconography as a reflection of our self.

Back in the narrative field, her naked and silent abstractions left behind, she still employs materials she cherished, like fabrics, all sort of papers, strings, collages… common in her previous work.

This new series made of small paintings (25x25) allows her to play with varied compositions combining the paintings in different ways, depending on the feeling of the moment and following an esthetical more tan a narrative line.

Here she mixes natural elements with photography and photocopies, a male figure always giving his back to the public (searching for a new path?), a repeated and anonyme female figure, sometimes hiding her face in her hands (hiding from the grey reality?), but in the end always trying to look for a way out.

This misterious couple, man and woman, is very interesting. They walk together, apparently at the same pace, seemingly out of the marked way, their silhouettes in black and white… Next to them, spirals made of strings allow us to follow the path or to spin around ourselves, trapped in the acrylic matter and abstract background…

This exhibition invites us to follow Liviana’s work and thought, led by a master hand, herself… Grey is the main color and the key of most paintings, but sometimes we find shadows of white, some red, small lights here and there, almost announcing new ways of experimentation in the future of liviana’s art.

This new works are brave and straight, and even if the artist is still hiding behind anonimity and a few hesitations, she seems decided to choose the best and brightest of the paths which open in front of her.

We must congratulate the artist for showing us a collection of works which make us think and speak out our doubts, always personal and universal at the same time.

Una exposición alegre y veraniega de Liviana Leone, Toto Zumpano y Stella Kamazón en la Galería Kreuzer

Hasta el día 11 de agosto Amorbach está ubicado en la Costa del Sol - por lo menos para amigos del arte.
La Galería Maria Kreuzer alberga en las próximas cuatro semanas una alegre exposición con pinturas y esculturas de tres artistas que viven y trabajan desde hace muchos años en Marbella.

La entrada recibe al visitante con una intensidad simbólica y colores más bien rebajados: la italiana Liviana Leone no apuesta en sus pinturas acrílicas, que tienen títulos como Sueños en gris o La noche y los sueños, por la realidad ostensible. Ella busca la verdad detrás de la superficie, deja intuir el subconsciente en sus trabajos de asombrosa profundidad, permite al observador mirar hasta honduras místicas.

Después de la formación universitaria en idiomas y literatura, Liviana Leone estudió Bellas Artes en Florencia y más tarde se mudó a Marbella donde abrió un taller de arte.

Especialmente bien puede imbuirse en la memoria de algún visitante el cuadro Me quedo, un juego misterioso con una silueta femenina en distintas situaciones.

Acercándonos a la segunda sala de la galería, las esculturas y las pinturas hacen magia y llevan el verano meridional y el alma mediterránea a Amorbach. Toto Zumpano, arquitecto argentino, que hace 13 años se instaló en Marbella, expone allí sus pinturas con títulos como Laguna azul, Mar negro, Todas las vacas, todas o Cosquilleo. Los títulos que dejan adivinar su mezcla de humor y desbordante alegría de vivir que se transmite sin ruptura al observador. A veces Toto Zumpano recurre a un estilo de casi arte naif y incluye cabezas que parecen influenciadas por Botero. Otra veces combina de manera soberana elementos del cuadro con texto como en la pintura de formato grande Madre naturaleza. Pronto uno se da cuenta que Toto Zumpano ya hace tiempo que ha encontrado su propio e inconfundible estilo. Un objeto que atrae todas las miradas se encuentra en el fondo de la sala: 20 cuadros de pequeño formato que en su unidad forman una alegre obra de arte, pero que aportan buen humor también por separado.

El perfecto complemento lo forman las esculturas de Stella Kamazón. La española, dibujante publicitaria de formación, lo consigue mediante el reciclaje de materiales usados, creando nuevas y atractivas figuras que embargan al visitante desde el primer momento. También aquí los títulos son un importante componente de la obra de arte, por ejemplo en la escultura De rojo alivio donde la madera de raíz da cuerpo a una cabeza inolvidable. O los pájaros hechos de tejidos viejos y enrejados de alambre que escoltan al visitante de la primera sala a la segunda. Llenas de fantasía son también las pequeñas esculturas, por ejemplo Refugio amarillo donde lápices amarillos se unen a una catedral en filigrana de gran elegancia - arquitectura en el microcosmos.
